So, I have gone back and forth on whether or not to write about this on my blog. But this is my place, my place to share the things going on in my life. I feel like you guys are like my little blog family/friends. Yes it’s true, I am an over sharer! But this has been on my mind since I saw the doctor last week, and to be honest, at certain times I feel a little uneasy about it all. For the most part though I feel at peace and I truly feel that everything is going to be just fine.
So let me back up. I’ve struggled with migraines since I was 16. My first symptom when I had my first migraine was the entire left side of my face went numb. I can vividly remember this and I was totally freaked out. My parents of course took me to see a doctor and and I had an MRI. The MRI came back totally normal and the doctor said that this was a common side effect to certain migraines. Over the years until I was about 23 I had them once every few months. I would know I was about to have one because the numbing would come first and then the awful headache.
At 23 they pretty much stopped. I don’t think I had one for about 2 years and it was so nice not having them (migraines suck btw if you’ve never had one). They started coming back when I was about 25, but they were still way less frequent than before. Again, I would know they were about to start by the numbness and I would immediately take Excedrin and lie down in a dark room if possible.
Over the past three months they have come back with a vengeance and this time with some new, yucky symptoms! I’ve had two over the last month and they have been bad. My second to last one, my speech was severely slurred for about an hour. That was so scary, I knew what I was trying to say but it would’t come out. It was all jumbled and slurred and Todd couldn’t make out my sentences, but as soon as my migraine was over my speech was back to normal. Then I had another one come on last week and this time my entire left arm went numb. Something just did’t feel right about these last two.
So while I was at the doctor the other day I mentioned what had been going on. He immediately responded saying, “You need to go see a neurologist.” So now I am waiting to get in with a neurologist (that being said, they are obviously very busy doctors). I am guessing they will do another MRI and odds are I am going to be just fine, but of course like a silly goose, I hit the google button on my symptoms and holy freak you out batman!!
All this to say, I would love to hear from any of you guys if you’ve ever had migraines or any of these symptoms.
Oh girl! I'm sure you are worried but I'm praying for you that everything will be okay. Those symptoms do sound normal with migraines and maybe they'll just prescribe you something to keep on hand to take as SOON as the first symptom appears. That's the key for my mom, she has to take a migraine with teh first sign, then she goes back to bed and sleeps it off. keep us posted! Hugs!
I'm so sorry to hear this! I get migraines and have gone to the hospital and gotten MRI's but nothing every like this. I'm sending you hugs and prayers girl!
I'm so sorry girl – those migraines really do suck! I am just like you though – I also suffer from terrible migraines that make me slightly numb and my eyes start to blur my vision or see spots. I've had tests down and all is ok so I haven't pursued it… One doctor did mention that mine could be an after effect of me having meningitis when I was younger but no proof!
Good luck with the neurologist, and you will be in my prayers x
Call and harass the neurologist to get in earlier. And don't go off your Anxiety meds yet. You know I"m a zoloft girl for OCD/Anxiety and I honestly can't wait to be back on them. If you are having issues like these migraines the last thing you need is extra anxiety that comes from weening off medicines…and when I weened myself off I got zaps and horrible side effects. I would stick with them until the migraine issue is diagnosed. Just my two cents from a fellow worrier!!! xoxoxoxo
I suffer from migraines as well. Definitely call the neurologist back and see if you can get in sooner so while you wait you don't stress out. One thing My neurologist has me taking daily is magnesium oxide I take 400mg morning and night and it has helpedmy migraines come less frequently and less intense so ask about that. It is just a supplement. I prefer to take this then a daily prescription medicine which I tried many but didn't have a lot of success the side effects out weighted the benefit every time. Hang in there!
I started getting migraines when I was 8 and they are definitely scary! Mine come and go as well, lately I only have one every six months or so, and it used to be every month. Everyone has different, scary symptoms, but hopefully it's nothing to worry about. I was once at work and completely lost my vision and went to the hospital, then the opthemologist, and as it turns out, it was an ocular migraine. Now I have those every few months and it still makes me nervous each time, but the doctor says nothing to worry about. Thinking of you and good luck at the neurologist!
DO NOT GOOGLE! (This is coming from the hypochondriac herself 🙂 ) I am sure you will be just fine! One of my good friends never had migraines until she was pregnant, and has been dealing with them ever since. It could be something as simple as something going on in your life at the current moment. Bodies are so weird and react so differently to a number of things.
Thinking of you! Xoxo
Definitely googling anything you may be worried about makes it 10x worse (I've been guilty of the same over the last few weeks- that announcement coming later) with that said though this sounds awfully terrible to be dealing with and it definitely seems to interfere with every day life when it's that severe! I'm praying that when you see the doc you get some much needed answers and some treatment! Keep us posted and try to relax! Enjoy your day! xoxo
Praying for you!! Psalm 46:1 "God is our refuge & strength, an EVER PRESENT help in trouble…" & Isaiah 41:10 "So do not fear for I am with you; do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you & help you…" Both verses have always been an encouragement to me when I'm fearful or anxious about a situation
I have suffered from migraines since i had my daughter 5 years ago– I hadn't had a migraine prior to having her and after birth they came about every 2 weeks I have been on daily medicine several times but they didn't work out– recently we went to a specialist for other issues relating to pregnancy and I found out I have a hypoactive thyroid. I have been on medication since July for my thyroid and have only had 2 migraines since getting on the meds. I know that most likely isn't what is going on with you but might be something they can check for. Good Luck with the dr and I hope they can figure out what is going on. Try and not worry – which is easier said than done! Please keep us updated!!
I have experienced migraines exactly as you are describing. I always have left side arm and facial numbness. I have experienced the slurred speech twice. It is very scary. After a neuro exam and MRI I was diagnosed with a "complicated" migraine. Some things I have read indicate these types of migraines can indicate a higher risk for stroke. The neuro I saw recommended I take an aspirin a day to decrease risk. I am in my early 30's and had an increase in severity and number of migraines that have now subsided. Good luck with your appointment.
I am so sorry you are having these problems. I typed up a long comment, but for some crazy reason it did not publish. My husband has what they call Cluster Headaches, which is worse than a migrane according to his neurologist. They come the same time every year or every few years and at the same exact time each day. He has shots that his gives himself when they come on. He talks out of his head and his speech is not normal. He cannot take aspirin bc they cause of the migranes is something about the way the blood vessels constrict in his head. I pray you get some answers. What my husband has, it is something he just has to deal with. The neurologist puts him on heavy meds and steroids during the cluster headaches to get rid of them. Prayers are with you and peace of mind for you and your sweet family! xoxo, Angie
I cannot even imagine. I am so sorry you're having to deal with this. I'll be praying for you and your family.

So scary – but I'm sure you will be totally ok. Our bodies do weird things!! – you are young and healthy and after a little reassurance from your doctor I'm sure you'll feel very relieved.
But – in the meantime – definitely stay off of google!!
I've suffered with migraines since I was 7, only OTC meds, a dark room and time would cure them. When I was in my late 20's I started having them with the side effects you mentioned. I went for all the testing and everything came out fine, but my doctor prescribed a presciption med…Relpax. It worked 90% of them time, although there were still the headaches that knocked me down for the count. Then miraculously(at 34), after I had my son, they went away. I still get one from time to time and they tend to menstrual/hormonal. I really hope you get some answers because I know how debilitating they can be…
So sorry you are going through this… I have suffered with migraines also, I can say that I have not had one is some time, but when I get them I get a temporary loss of vision in one eye, and like you have to take something and go into a dark room… Prayers going to you !
Have had the same exact symptoms, though years ago. The slurred speech totally freaked me out, I thought I was having a stroke! I found that mine were hormonal and once I quit taking birth control pills the occurrence went way down!
I had an MRI and even an EEG and they found nothing. Don't worry I am sure it will all be fine!
Especially stay off google! 😉
I am so so sorry you are dealing with this, Caycee! It's no fun at all. I've suffered from chronic daily migraine for the past 11 years and finally had an "experimental" surgery 2 weeks ago. Migraines are so difficult because no 2 people are the same and what works for one might not work for another. It's really about trial and error and finding what works best for you. I won't clog up your comments with the pages of things that I've tried, but if you'd like to know more, just shoot me an email. Pretty much if it exists, I've tried it! I hope it gets better for you and will be praying! xo
That sucks.I am sorry you are dealing with that. I haven't had a migraine in years but when i did they were horrific. I lost feeling (numb) in my hands. Couldn't hold onto anything. If I looked at you, I could only see one side of your face. I couldn't remember simple things like names or things (like Kleenex) or my phone number or the name of my husband (BF at the time). I don't know why I got them or why i not longer get them but I'm thankful I don't . I almost always felt better when I vomited. My friends father has dealt with them constantly for years and it was debilitating for him. He heard about cutting out all sugars and tried it and he has been migraine free for a couple years!!!! Good luck!
I am so sorry and I pray that all comes back normal. What a stressful situation. How long do you have to wait to be seen? I know the left side stuff is extra scary because of heart stuff, so I can only imagine what you saw when you googled the symptoms. But just keep your hopes up. xo

It seems like people here have some encouraging words for you. I love that you are free to share things because it helps others who are dealing with the same situation. I will be praying for you every day and night! Jesus, we pray that You heal Caycee of her migraines Lord! AMEN!
Hi Caycee, I don't know you so I feel a little odd commenting on something personal, but I do read your blog and noticed you quit taking Lexapro around the same time your frequent migraines be occurring again. It's possible (probably likely) these two are interrelated. Just something you may want to bring up to your neurologist. Hope you feel better soon!
I didn't read the other comments but I started seeing a neurologist for migraines around 26 years of age. I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor. Almost all are benign and most people who have them never know (sometimes people will die of old age/something else and an autopsy will reveal they had one). They're only really dangerous if a) they're secreting hormones that make you out of balance or b) they grow large enough to put pressure on your spinal area. If so, they're surgically removed. Mine was a millimeter or so (can't remember). I was monitored for several years and my migraines completely stopped once I started having babies (likely a result of preganncy and breastfeeding hormones). I haven't had one since, so at this point I've been released from yearly monitoring by my neurologist. I would definitely suggest you see a neurologist and get an MRI. I know it can be scary but all in all I think it's for the best and likely you won't have anything seriously wrong. As women with hormones we are much more
Last comment cut off…
As women with fluctuating hormones we are much more likely to suffer from migraines and I think seeing a specialist would make you feel better and give you the answers you're looking for.
Btw- I was on Zomig for migraines before preganncy. Took as one was coming on, they absorbed in my mouth (I vomited during migraines). Not save to take during pregnancy but wasn't an issue for me because my headaches and migraines all stopped when I was pregnant/ BF. And have really not been as much of an issue since then. Good luck Caycee!!!
I don't ever really comment and had wanted to ask you about your anxiety, but that will have to wait. I will keep you in my prayers. God Bless.

I am so sorry you have to deal with migranes. a good friend of mine does as well and she started drinking Greens from It Works and it has give her so much relief…let me know if you want info about it
I've only had a handfull of migraines but that's enough in my book!! Always so scared they will come back too. I usually throw up when I get a migraine (if I don't catch it in time). My very first migraine my speech slurred too and the doctors attributed that to dehydration, which could have been a reason the migraine came on to begin with.
Oops hit submit before saying prayers everything is okay and that you can find relief asap pretty mama!!! Xxxx.
did you try to get an appointment with dr. hamid bahadori? that is who i see for mine. he is great.. i started with botox and an occipital nerve block for mine. I've had them for 15 years 🙁 he is with carolina neurological downtown affiliated with roper. i got into see him pretty quickly! good luck! i feel your pain girl.
I am so sorry! I have the type of migraines you have had recently about once every 6 months..they are terrible! Saying a prayer for you!
I am so sorry you are going thru all of this. I pray that the doctor will be able to figure out what is wrong and that you will be healed of all of this. I don't know you but feel like I do from your blog and instagram. You seem like such a kind and sweet soul and I love following you. Remember with God all things are possible. He loves you and will take care of you! xoxo
Just want to echo this- you are your own best advocate, you do NOT need wait for the neurologist to slot you in!! Call your GP back and ask them to call the office to relay the importance of you being seen ASAP. A lot of times specialists will happily do this for GPs that refer them a lot of business.
I am so sorry to hear this. Please check your Blood Pressure.
I'll be thinking about you and praying that everything is okay. Please let me know as soon as you find anything out! Being sick sucks the big one!
