Dear, oh dear, I had no idea how many little decisions I would need to make when we decided to update the kitchen.
I have been having tons of fun picking out little things, but I am struggling making final decisions. So, I thought I would ask you guys what you thought! I love getting your feedback and hearing you opinions on what you think looks best.
I am trying to keep this project as budget friendly as possible, while still getting the look I want.
Sadly, it looks like I may not be able to knock out the wall above the bar. I am really bummed about this as I had my heart set on pendant lights. My contractor said it wouldn’t be worth the cost in his opinion. I have yet to ask exactly what it would be so maybe there is still hope.
So lets start with some fun stuff shall we?
Counter tops
There was never a doubt in my mind that I wanted to go with marble counters, but after my first post I had about 10 emails telling me NOT to get marble. It is horrible upkeep and with kids its just not practical! Ugh, so I am off today to go look at my other options. I have in my head a few that I am leaning towards, but I want to see them in person. Looks like it’s going to be quartz for the win. A few I will be looking at today. Does anyone have this in your kitchen? Do you love it?
Here are some kitchens with quartz that I love.
Sinks
I have fallen in love with the farmhouse sink, but I have yet to find one with a price I love. The best price I have found is this one from Lowe’s. The only other option that I like is this one, and it’s half the price. What would you do, go with the original or save and go with the cheaper one?

Cheaper version
Real farmhouse sink
Last on the list today…….faucets. I mean, who knew there were so many choices and who knew how expensive they could be?? I am going to go with polished chrome since that is what the existing hardware already is. I’ve decided the hardware we have now is going to stay. I just updated that a few years ago and since I decided against brass I am going to keep the polished chrome. I found a few options on Overstock that I am leaning towards. Do you guys have a favorite?

  1. Silestone is great- non porous, so it won't stain or need to be resealed. If u think u want your pendants, I say go for it and only do it once!!!

  2. Be careful when buying a Farmhouse sink. I have been looking for one too and the ones I have seen are too shallow, but they look like they are deep…..trickery! If your anything like me, when you put a dish in the sink you want to hide it (or try!). Make sure you see it in person before buying it.

  3. Can't wait to see the finished result. Love the first or last faucet and I think the chrome will look so good with the white!

I love kitchen remodels, especially when someone decides to re-use most of what they already have :). Have you considered stainless steel farmhouse sinks? They might be more budget friendly. I personally LOVE the single basin one, but that is just because I have one, and it's huge, and I can fit EVERYTHING in there. The last faucet is my fave, again, because I have a similar one, and it's just so modern and elegant at the same time, definitely one of my favorite things in my kitchen. Good luck with choosing the countertops, I like them all, and I agree, it's very smart of you not to get marble, it's beautiful, but not practical.

Love your ideas! Wishing we could update our kitchen too! I saw a nice looking white farmhouse style sink at Ikea that seemed reasonably priced. Can't wait to see the final product!

LOVE a farmhouse sink. It seems hard to not go with the cheaper option, but will it be deep enough?! Faucets 1 and 3 have my vote!

  7. I have always dreamed of white with gray veining marble counter tops so i would love to hear what people emailed you about them. Hers is my theory on pricing. If it is in your price range and there are 2 and one is more expensive but you do like it better i say go for the one you truly like best. In the end it will be worth the extra cost to get what you really want. The last thing you want is to wish you had picked the other option.

i actually prefer the look of the cheaper farm sink! my mom has one and they are gorgeous. xo jillian – cornflake dreams

  9. My mom has had a farmhouse sink installed in both our old house and her new house. Go with the deeper one. You will LOVE it. I think she paid around $700 for hers online, but she did lots of research to find it. Her current one actually has the drain on one side, not smack dab in the middle, which has been awesome to get to use. the bottom of the sink has a slight angle to it to move the water towards the drain hole. In my opinion, this is the BEST farmhouse sink ever.

Go for the deeper sink. You won't regret it. If its a little more expensive but its what you want you won't regret it. Also, I like the last faucet. So fun! Cant wait to see what you decide!

  11. This is so exciting and I am reliving all my decisions all over again! We have the white ceasarstone and we love it – its also so durable and has yet to stain anything on it! I loved the farmhouse sink too but our final kitchen was too modern for it so now we have a deep sink (the same shape as the farmhouse) but it is set into the counter. I love our long faucet that has the removable strap to get into dishes – a great buy! x

  12. How exciting, I love kitchen remodels. I'd go w the deeper sink too. It's something that you use a lot, plus, it's best to do it once than having to come back to re-do.

Hi Caycee! Go with the deeper sink- you won't regret it. While my sink is not a farmhouse sink (boo hoo), it's an undermount composite granite sink and it's very deep. I have some very large skillets that fit in, no problem (one side of my sink is larger than the other). Make sure you check E-bay for sink options too- we got our sink from a shop on there and saved $$ over the home centers. 🙂 You might score a deal on a farmhouse sink there. Good luck!

I've seen a pretty farmhouse sink at IKEA for cheap!

  15. JEH says:

Definitely go for the deeper sink, the cheaper option is only 10 inches deep! Love the quartz over the marble, all the glamour but easy to clean. Great choices!

I recently purchased a farmhouse sink exactly like the one you're wanting for $500 from Vintage Tub & Bath and I absolutely love it! I thought it was a great deal when I purchased it, but a few months later it went on sale and they e-mailed me a coupon, so had a waited a bit I could have gotten it for even less.

I just installed Caesarstone quartz in my kitchen and LOVE it! You can see it on my blog, http://11gables.blogspot.com. The best advice I can give you is to go to your fabricator and ask if they have any large slabs you can look at. You want to look at the "flecking" in the quartz. Caesarstone 5000 series has done an awesome job at mimicking marble. I drove to Dallas to look at multiple slabs since it was a brand new product in the US. At the time I purchased it, no one in a 5 state radius had installed it yet. Enjoy this process of updating the kitchen! It is an adventure!! xox, Emily @ 11gables.blogspot.com

  18. Go with the single basin one!
