// On Instagram last night I shared a few pictures of our fur baby Rocky and what’s been going on with him lately.  I know I don’t talk about him all that much on the blog, but he is such a huge part of our lives.
Well, Rocky was due for his shots this month, but we took him in early the last week of May because something just didn’t seem quite right with him.  Well, we found out that he has diabetes.  I had a feeling that this is what he had from researching some of his symptoms.  That being said, I had been saying I thought this was his problem for for a few weeks, so I wasn’t really surprised, and I knew that it was manageable.
Then, after giving him two shots of insulin daily and completely changing his diet for just over a week, he was still having symptoms and didn’t seem to be feeling any better so we took him back to the vet on Monday.  Our vet thinks there is a good chance that he could also have Cushing’s Disease along with diabetes.  His blood work has been sent off to the labs and we should know for sure by next week.
Rocky will be 12 years old in just a few days and it is truly hard to believe that he’s been with Todd and I since the beginning.  He is part of our family and sometimes my friends joke that I treat him like a child, but to me, it kinda feels like he is.
Rocky has been there by my side through it all.  I still remember the third day after we brought Carson home from the hospital and I was feeling really sad, and the only person, or I guess I should say ‘animal’ I wanted around was Rocky.  I know that probably sounds really strange, but I guess it had something to do with the postpartum depression.  Either way, Rocky just felt like my safe place.
During that time, Rocky stayed close by my side pretty much 24/7.  He would often jump in my lap or in the bed with me and just cover me with kisses.  It was like he could sense something wasn’t right and he knew I needed the extra love.  It’s really really hard for me to picture our life without Rocky, so I am praying we get him on all the right medication and that the Lord gives us many more years with him.
// The kids and I are both loving summer so far!!  Knock on wood, but they have both been sleeping in past 7am every morning and waking up happy and in a great mood!  They are at the age now where they play great together (most of the time).
I ordered a few new games and puzzles from Amazon the other day and we are loving all of them! Especially the Junior Game of Life...it’s so fun!
Here they are practicing a new barre move I taught them…haha!!
// Victoria’s Secret just started their semi-annual sale!!!  I loaded up on new swimsuits and pajamas because the prices were so good I just couldn’t help myself 😉
// My $42.00 off the shoulder stripe dress was just restocked, but it looks like sizes are going fast!

  1. So randomly, I actually had Cushings disease. It's more common in animals than it is in humans. I had a tumor removed about 3 years ago and after about 9 months of medication I was pretty much cured and back to normal. Hopefully they can locate the cause of the Cushings (possibly a benign tumor) and take care of it. Hugs!

Sorry to hear about your sweet puppy. 🙁 I wanted to share that my yellow lab was diagnosed with Addison's Disease at age 8, and with the proper medication, lived another five happy years. Addison's affects the adrenal gland, which I think is also true of Cushing's. He took fludrocortisone the rest of his life. Good luck!

Aww, so sorry to hear about Rocky! Praying for healing and that he won't be in any pain and that y'all will have him around for a few more years. Hugs!

  4. I just bought that fringe coverup & a ton of suits too. Hoping some work out.

Not kidding, my dog has diabetes and cushings. Everyone thinks I'm crazy for continuing to pay so much money for all of this medication but I've had Maddy for 13 years and it's not a question. She was diagnosed with diabetes at 7. She was fully controlled until around 10 when she started to increase water intake again and have accidents everywhere. That's when the cushings was diagnosed. They said many dogs have cushings but it's especially impt to control when they have diabetes so it can stay regulated. Goodluck!

Sorry to hear about Rocky. I hope he gets better soon. If everyone loved like your pets, the world would be a better place.

Thank you for this post. A dog’s body is operated by hormones – hormones are chemical substances produced by glands and released in the blood to control different functions of the body. When the glands do not function properly, they overproduce or under-produce the hormones they make and upset normal body functions. See more http://dogsaholic.com/care/cushings-disease-in-dogs.html
