It’s been a while since we’ve had some real life confessions and I’ve got some secrets to tell 😉
// Something really crazy is going on with my hormones!  I am talking hair falling out, bad breakouts, and other REALLY strange things.  I asked my doctor about it last week and she’s running some blood work just to be sure it’s only my hormones!  Good news is I don’t feel any crazier than I normally do;)
// Speaking of my hair, not only is it falling out it’s also breaking off!  Ahhh…I know, I highlight my hair which is horrible for it, but I’ve been doing it for 15+ years and this has never happened.  Either way, I just ordered a few things from the It’s a 10 line in hopes to repair this mess, but if you guys have any suggestions or tips I am all ears!!  I mean, two glasses of wine in the other night and I was Googling wigs!!!
// I am having major mom guilt.  Taylor just turned three and we are still struggling with the potty! Bless her heart, she has had constipation issues over the last year, and our doctor just recently prescribed her the prescription Miralax.  Poor baby associates the potty with being painful.  I feel like we pushed Carson too early, and it was not fun, so I want to make sure she is 100% ready.  Mommies of babies with tummy issues, any advice?!?!
// I have started a really bad habit of eating a late night snack in bed while watching TV!  I used to brush my teeth around 7 just to make sure this didn’t happen.  I can’t help it now that all the good shows are on…all I want to do is munch on something…….and unfortunately, it’s not carrots or celery.
// Taylor had her first REAL meltdown in the store the other day!  I am talking it was BAD!!  I am pretty sure I have never heard her scream so loud!  Carson looked over at me and said, “mom can we please leave, I am so embarrassed everyone is looking at us.”  The bathroom was a lot closer than the door so we bolted in there in hopes to calm her down!  No such luck.  Then, on the way out a sweet lady stopped me to tell me that she reads my blog.  Talk about being embarrassed!  And it was all over a Frozen toy that I told her she couldn’t have.  And no, she most certainly did not get it 🙂
Now that Carson and Taylor are both getting a little older, and can actually play together and communicate, things are so much easier.  Sometimes, however, I swear I think they are plotting against me.  Haha!

I have had thyroid problems and having an overactive thyroid can cause us to lose hair !! Have you had your thyroid checked ???

Ahh…welcome to the not so pretty perks of being in your 30's. I've gone thru similar hair issues (and skin) and I had my Dr check for thyroid issues. Everything was fine, it's just old lady issues I suppose ;). My son was three when he was finally potty trained, and one thing I've learned with kids (I have two) is not to push them, they will be ready when they are ready, and sometimes pushing them too early can back fire on you.

My daughter has been on Miralax since she was a baby. She's had horrible constipation issues and had the same worries about going potty. Miralax was a life saver. We give it to her daily since it doesn't hurt her tummy at all (she's now 8!). With potty training we went out to Party City & bought a Pirate's treasure box & bought cute fun small toys to put in it. Every time she went poo poo in the potty she got a toy. Worked really well for us! Hope this helps!

  4. Oh girl! I'm sorrry about your hair. And poor Taylor – BEEN THERE! For years we tried every medication with her. She would just hold it and hold it and then of course it would be painful when she'd go. We didn't think she'd ever outgrow it. Around age 6, she FINALLY did and goes with NO problems. But during the process.. it's SUCH a pain.. and you feel so bad for them struggling. Miralax is a good choice but we found better luck with Milk of Magnesia. It's pretty much just trial and error with what works with her.

  5. LOL at that last one. I think my kids plot against me too. Have you tried vitamins with biotin in them? It's supposed to be good for your hair and nails. And don't worry about the potty training – maybe now with the meds and it being easier for her to "go", she'll do a bit better.

  6. Erin says:

Also trying to train a stubborn (boy) 3-year old who is just not interested. And my daughter has problems with constipation. We love Miralax. And if she eats pretty healthy she is fine. 🙂 Did your pediatrician have any tips?

  7. Unknown says:

One of my kids had the same problem at age 3. Miralax did the trick after trying other medicines. Good luck!

  8. Renee says:

Go back and get that frozen toy and tell her she can have it when she's potty trained! Just kidding… But I was definitely not above using bribery when it came to potty training. Worked for us!

  9. Laura says:

Love the idea of brushing your teeth early so you won't eat anything after a certain time! I've got to try that!

  10. Kimberly says:

We hat tummy problems too. My daughter used to wait to go #2 in her night time diaper. We were prescribed the same thing, but I didn't give it to her. I made sure she had lots of water, cut back on cheese, and would give her half a prune baby food pouch to make sure it was easy to go. I also did a probiotic in her milk. She eventually got more comfortable and is doing fine now.

  11. Unknown says:

Buy children's probiotic! The the kid in refridge section at any health food store. It will help your child be regular & also help boost her immune system. Trust me it will change your world. Be patient it takes a week or maybe less. My kids drink their in a danimal.

I had the same issue with my daughter and potty training! We did Miralax and she started eating a lot of Fiber One snacks and that made her more regular but it was a struggle! She was in full time daycare at that time which made it more stressful for me, worrying about her during the day. It honestly all worked itself out but it took time and I don't know how people claim to do it in a few days! It took us pretty much a full year to get everything down, including night dryness. Hang in there! I thought we'd never get there but eventually did!

  13. Hi girlie. R had the same issues. It was so so bad. She would come home from school early because her tummy aches were so bad and she couldn't go. Turns out she was lactose intolerant. Once we took her off dairy and used Lactaid for milk her problems were solved. I know it's a long shot but maybe something to chat with doc about unless you have already ruled it out.

  14. Elizabeth says:

Probiotics really helped us! My son used miralax for a few years, too, but we've recently switched to giving him fiber gummies. He eats one at night and one in the morning. It seems to help as much as the miralax.

  15. I love your honesty! I have been dealing with the hair and face issues too the last few months. I have started using Young Living Progessence Plus, and I made a coconut oil/young living oil face cream, and so far so good. I don't feel like I have been using the Progessence long enough to really tell a difference, but I am in love with the face cream!

When I hit my late twenties/early thirties the same thing happened to me with my skin and hair. I went to 3 different dermatologists, tried every medication for my skin, and also tried home remedies. I spent thousands of dollars on medication and doctors visits and finally went to a doctor who cured my skin issue and found out I had been mis-diagnosed all these years. They put me on Spironolactone which is an anti-androgen hormone. Something about when you hit your late 20's, your body can produce to much aldosterone which causes the breakouts. My skin was flawless within a month of taking the oral pills. Only downside is you can absolutely not get pregnant while on it! Even my dermotologist is on it. Ask your doctor about it or go to carolina dermatology and laser and see Kalen (she is great). I'm still trying to figure out the hair issues but I think this is helping a little. Hope this helps. I wish someone gave me this info!

try the Living Proof haircare line!!!

  18. Unknown says:

My hair too has started falling out! My baby is 4 mos old and I read somewhere that 3 months after something big that your body goes thru ( childbirth, surgery, etc) can cause hair loss 3 months after…. It's driving me nuts !

  19. Unknown says:

I sent you an email yesterday, hope you got it!

  20. Christina says:

Girl, I feel ya on the hair issues!! I'm in my 30s and six months ago noticed I was losing tons of hair (can you say awful receding hair line) and quite frankly I felt like I was 14 again with my face which is typically free of any breakouts/blackheads. I met with my doctor for tests too. My hormones were trying to find a new balance after kiddos (which was almost two years ago). Wasn't that nice of them? 😉 I take Biotin every day and am religious about making sure all my make-up is washed off at night. I finally have nice baby hairs coming in. I hope you find an answer soon – I know how hard this is!!

I feel your pain! I've double processed my hair for 20 years! In my 30's it started breaking off. I have seriously tried everything. Recently I've just stopped highlighting it and it's finally growing. I still color it, jut no more highlights. Sigh! I also started using the D'Cinque line. They sell it at Canvas. It's phenomenal! My oldest daughter suffered with constipation too. She's been on Miralax forever. It totally regulated her. She's 11 now and we weaned her off last year. It was a life saver for her. Good luck with both issues!

  23. Dina says:

I don't potty train mine until they hit 3, don't fret, it will happen! Hair-have you had your iron and thyroid levels checked? Those can affect your hair big time. Also you could try some Biotin capsules and Keratin based hair products.

  24. Dina says:

Also, both my kids are on the Culturelle probiotics for children, one in their morning milks, I have become a huge probiotic fan, I feel like it helps with GI issues, keeps them healthy all around, and has also helped my son outgrow his excema and food allergies. I take the Align probiotic capsules as well.
