Good morning loves, and happy hump day!!
Let me start by saying that I LOVE our dog, however, he is wearing our asses out in the middle of the night. Between Todd and I, one of us has to get up at least three times with him in the middle of the night to let him outside. We would just leave him out, but he will scratch relentlessly at the door or he will bark and wake up the neighbors.
Being that he has diabetes, he has to relieve himself much more often and he drinks a ton of water. It feels like we have a newborn again you guys, and I don’t know what the heck to do?! If you guys have any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
And this picture cracks me up. This was me last Sunday when I went to take a nap on the couch. Clearly he was more worn out from waking us up in middle of the night than I was…ha!
// One of my favorite little white dresses was just restocked in all sizes! And the best part (besides the fact it’s super cute), it’s only $65!
Dress runs tts / slightly loose. If you are between sizes, go down a size. For reference, I’m wearing the xs.
// I also had a few questions on Instagram about how the sizing runs for this off the shoulder top. It’s a really soft/loose cotton, and it runs on the larger side. For reference, I’m wearing the xs and I had more room than usual. Hope that made sense 😉

// Loft just came out with an ADORABLE new lemon print, and I seriously can’t get enough of it. It may just be my favorite collection yet!

// And last, but not least, here is the requested potsticker noodle bowl I made last night. This recipe was super easy, pretty healthy, and really delicious! I highly recommend it.

I couldn’t find regular slaw mix at Whole foods, so I used this broccoli slaw instead.

Also, instead of regular soy sauce I used Coconut Aminos and then I added in a little of this shitake soy ginger sauce for extra flavor. I thought the soy ginger sauce was gluten free, but after I made the dish I realized that it’s actually not. #oops So, just skip this if you are wanting to make this dish 100% gluten free.

Poor pup! And you must be so exhausted… I have a newborn right now, so I'm right there with you! Can you install a doggy door? I know you have this beautiful, brand-new home, but it might be worth it to get some sleep…

  2. Spiffie says:

Get a dog door! That's what we have 🙂

  3. KatiePerk says:

I make these noodles too! I like to use the cruciferous crunch slaw mix from Trader Joe's.

  4. Cannot wait to try that recipe! My pup is diabetic too and we have the same problem, or else we wake up to accidents in the morning which is NOT fun. Is he on insulin? I can send you an email with everything we have been doing!!

  5. Kim Oliver says:

Since he is drinking so much maybe his glucose levels are a little high? Maybe try increasing his insulin injections. If his glucose levels are in range, he shouldn't be drinking extra water. Note: I'm just basing this on how humans react to Type 1 diabetes and high glucose levels. He's super cute!

I have been a vet tech for over twenty years and it sounds like his diabetes is unregulated. You should talk to your vet. Diabetics are also prone to urinary tract infections. I really don't think it would be fair to put an old dog whose not used to being outside out at night.

Hey Tricia! That was my first thought too, but he just recently went in for his glucose curve and everything looked good. I guess I should have mentioned in our old house Rocky slept outside for the last two years, and this was by his choice 🙂 At our new house we are backed up to marsh and woods, and I think he hears things and goes nuts with his barking 🙂

  8. caycee says:

Oh no your poor pup, and poor you!! Yes Rocky is on insulin twice a day, and he recently just had his glucose curve, so who the heck knows? Thinking maybe we need to take him back in ;(

  9. caycee says:

YUM, I will have to grab those next time! I love me some Trader Joes!!

  10. caycee says:

Oh girl, I remeber those days and nights so well! Praying you get some sleep soon! And I am not sure why the heck we didn't think of this before!! I will check them out, thanks for the advice 🙂

  11. caycee says:

Off to check them out now!! Thanks so much girl!

  12. caycee says:

Thank you Kim! I think we are going to try and up them to 11 units tonight and see if that helps!

Hi Caycee, check out the company Plexidors for lockable plexiglass dog doors. The contractor that built your house should be able to install it no problem.

  14. It might be worth looking into installing a doggie door. They have some you can install in low windows which would be better than cutting a hole in the door like we did. All I can say is it worlds beautifully so our Wes tie can let himself in when he wants to come in. For some reason he like the room service idea of being picked up oput of bed and placed outside. He's 14 so doesn't jump anymore. I wish I had bitten the bullet years ago and saved myself a lot of sleep.

  15. Jack says:

I see others have mentioned this–but I'd like to encourage the dog door. It's been a life changer for us. I no longer run down the stairs first thing in the morning and search the house for accidents. Also–can you pick up his water by a certain time in the evenings? Maybe start later, (depending on your bed time) around 7pm, and back it earlier depending on how this time works. That's what they recommend for children trying to train at night. If it's good for a child… (I'd also recommend making sure the toilet lids are down if you go this route 😉 Good Luck!

  16. Frannie says:

Others have given lots of good advice. Also wanted to mention there are LOTS of medical conditions in animals that cause excessive water drinking. Might be worth a conversation with your vet. My pups have gotten to be old ladies and there have been several conditions we have had to keep our eyes on!
